We have removed oil burners from home and offices and replaced with sustainable energy systems. Geothermal heating and air conditioning which draws upon the water 400 feet down provides the energy along with electricity for the heat pumps in these cold environments.
We have installed solar panels on our home and farm to collect what energy is needed throughout the year. We monitor our use and seek to use enough solar to maintain a carbon neutral balance.
Our home, office building, and barn have been recently restored and awarded with LEEDS Gold Certification building standard.
Dyes for coloring our garments are from plant extracts instead of petroleum.
Indigo, red madder, osage, pomegranate, logwood are used in our new natural dye house and laundry in Saco, Maine. Our demand for color is significant and keeps small operations growing the herbs going and growing.
Travel is an emerging issue for us. We have located our sales people near marketplaces with many trade shows for us to engage with retailers where you may prefer to purchase locally made goods.
We produce a catalogue made from recycled paper. And we maintain an on-line commerce. Packaging of finished product comes from recycled paperboard.
Ongoing measurements of carbon emission will be undertaken by our consultant, Clean Air, Cool Planet in our quest to become entirely carbon neutral.
