Our lofty, warm and cozy down comforters are how Cuddledown got its start in 1973. The centuries-old European tradition of sleeping under a down comforter and duvet cover hadn’t yet caught on in the U.S., but the energy crisis of the 1970s forced people to look for new ways to keep warm. The luxuriously soft and light, yet warm comfort of our down bedding became so popular, over the years we’ve expanded our operations to include our catalog, website and a retail/outlet store in Freeport, Maine.

We currently offer not only a wide selection of down and synthetic comforters, pillows and featherbeds, all handcrafted here in Maine, but we carry a full line of sheets and blankets, sleepwear, apparel and footwear, towels and home décor. Our core down and synthetic comforters, pillows and featherbeds are handcrafted in Maine for quality and comfort that lasts. Although U.S. manufacturing jobs have dwindled to near extinction, our CEO, Chris Bradley, believes in keeping our production close to home. Our skilled Maine-trained stitchers know best how to produce Cuddledown products, plus, keeping operations in Maine allows us to scrutinize the materials that go into each down pillow, comforter and featherbed. 

Our bedding is handcrafted with the finest materials available. Every step of the process is completed with detailed care, and the quality is checked to assure that only the finest products are produced for our customers. Over the years, we realized our customers wanted the same level of comfort in their sleepwear as they experienced with our bedding, so we developed our own line of sleepwear.  Amadora by Cuddledown offers beautifully tailored nightgowns, pajamas, and robes in feminine, yet sophisticated color palettes printed on decadently soft fabrics, such as 100% pima cotton.

All of the products we offer are rigorously tested and researched before they are placed in our catalog or on our website. For many years we've offered certified safe bedding and sleepwear that has been tested by Oeko-Tex® and is certified to be free of all substances harmful to you and your family. And by keeping harmful chemicals out of our fabrics we're also keeping them out of the environment when their useful lives are over.
